Of all my Shakespeare songs, this one is perhaps my most accessible and the most like a pop song. It’s been performed at weddings and seems to have taken on a life of its own apart from my Shakespeare songs project. It is not from a play, but is based on Shakespeare’s famous cycle of sonnets which he wrote in the 1590’s while he was “unemployed” due to an outbreak of plague in London which closed the Theatres. Jennie Emery added a lot to this recording with her wonderful vocals… I was very careful to make sure I gave her all the high notes I can’t hit!
